Lands and Surveys Department

Mission Statement

“Committed to efficiently manage the process of determining, recording and disseminating all information about national land for socio-economic benefit and sustainable development.”

The Department of Land and Survey is headed by the Commissioner of Lands, Mr Wilbert Vallejos.

The department is subdivided into five (5) Sections

  1. National Estate
  2. Survey and Mapping
  3. Physical Planning
  4. Valuation
  5. Land Information Centre

These sections collectively have the prime responsibility of overseeing all aspects of land tenure in Belize to ensure compliance with the standards provided in accordance with the following/ relevant Act and Regulation:

  • General Registry
  • Land Acquisition (Public Purpose)
  • Land Acquisition (Promoters)
  • Land adjudication
  • Land Surveyors
  • Land Tax
  • Land Utilization
  • Registered Lands
  • National Lands
  • Private works construction
  • Administration of Estates
  • Law of property
  • Strata Titles Registration

The primary functions of the department are:

  • Management and allocation of national lands

  • Authentication of Plans for all legal surveys
  • Sub-division of lands
